Bold claim: Kuala Lumpur is stepping into the limelight as Southeast Asia’s new security capital thanks to Leonardo’s latest move. The opening of the Regional Cyber Center elevates Leonardo’s global security leadership and reinforces Malaysia’s strategic importance in the region.
The Kuala Lumpur Global CyberSec Center (GCC) joins Leonardo’s growing network of federated centers in Chieti, Bristol, Brussels, and Riyadh, forming a cohesive, worldwide approach to cyber defense. This new facility strengthens Leonardo’s stance in technologies for global security and signals a proactive commitment to tackling today’s increasingly complex and rapidly changing cyber threats. The event was attended by Malaysia’s Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Datuk Fahami Fadzil, underscoring the government’s support for this forward-looking initiative.
Strategically, Malaysia’s leadership in cybersecurity—through advanced legislation and robust protection of critical national infrastructure—makes it an ideal partner for Leonardo. By integrating Leonardo’s proprietary capabilities across cyber security, physical security, and mission-critical communications with the country’s own security priorities, the Center is positioned to contribute significantly to global defenses against new hybrid threats. This collaboration will strengthen digital sovereignty and support sustainable development across Malaysia and the wider region.
As part of the GCC, the Kuala Lumpur center joins other operational federated Regional Cyber Centers in Brussels (EU), Bristol (UK), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The GCC’s global network is designed to deliver cyber mission assurance for strategic clients, including defense organizations and vital national infrastructure, by sharing processes, threat intelligence, and cutting-edge technologies. The federated model enables scalable, international threat prevention, detection, and response while preserving national sovereignty over sensitive data.
Andrea Campora, Leonardo’s Managing Director of the Cyber & Security Solutions Division, explains: this long-term investment demonstrates Leonardo’s commitment to a deep industrial and technological partnership with Malaysia. In a landscape where cyber self-reliance is increasingly critical, National Strategic Organizations can rely on Leonardo’s Global CyberSec Platform to secure operations and ensure continuity. The Malaysia project aims to help transform critical infrastructures such as National Clouds and National Security Operation Centers into autonomous, strategically valuable assets.
This milestone marks a pivotal step in Leonardo’s broader plan to broaden its international footprint in Malaysia and across the region. When paired with recent acquisitions in Zero Trust architecture, the initiative solidifies Leonardo’s leadership in global security and reinforces Malaysia’s role as a central hub for Southeast Asia and, looking ahead, the broader Far East.
Leonardo has maintained a presence in Malaysia for more than four decades, contributing notably to the country’s defense and aerospace sectors. The company has delivered a wide spectrum of advanced solutions—from military and commercial helicopters to integrated defense systems, radar, naval and electronic warfare capabilities, and robust security solutions for critical infrastructure and mission-critical communications.
